Anglia Phoenix Challenge - Silverstone 16th March 1996
(1st Round)

The all new MGF is about to make it's racing debut in the UK on Saturday 16 March, at Silvestone.
Don Kettleborough is to campaign the MGF in this years MGCC Phoenix Challege. The car is a hardtop version and has been especially prepared for the coming season by GAYDON TEAM SPIRIT, a group of Technicians and Enthusiasts who have been working in their spare time at Rovers test facillity at Gaydon. The car will is to be raced in almost complete standard road form, apart from a few minor modifications in the suspension department. These will be similar to the mods Kettleborough made to his Group N Metro, which in fact he took to class victory in the 1994 National Saloon Car Cup

We will keep you informed of the MGF's progress throughout the season, and wish 'Gaydon Team Spirit' good luck for 1996.

So, how did it fair ?

It was a cold and wet Silverstone that greeted the MGF to it's debut at the Silverstone race circuit. Don Kettleborough gave an impressive performance during qualifying, and put the F in third spot on the grid. Not bad off the trailer !
Ahead of him on the grid were Gary Townsend in a Midget, and the Metro of Andrew Talbot.

The first corner did not go too well for Don where he had a "moment" and by the end of the first lap had dropped to sixth place, but Don kept his cool and by the ninth lap he was in the lead, could he keep his cool for the final lap ? Yes! and so the MGF takes it's first race win.

If you hurry you can still make plans to Visit Cadwell Park, (set in the beautiful county of Lincolnshire) on Sunday 24 March, where you will see the F on it's second outing. Can Kettleborough take the MGF to another victory ?

As soon as we hear we will let you know.
