Martin Ward was the first to show as he made a good start but by the second lap Ward had run into engine problems and inevitably was to drop back and out of contention. It was then up to John Stopes to uphold the honour of the Midget and to take the win ahead of the MG Metro of Andrew Talbot and in third in another Midget, Stuart Musk. Regular participants at MGCC events are brothers Alan & David Brooke. ( both members of the St. Albans MGOC ).
David won his class in the Phoenix Challenge but brother Alan had a few problems :

• Bent/twisted wheel studs and nuts not clamping the wheel against the hub properly.
• Gearbox jumping out of third whilst on full chat and the exhaust getting broken!

We wish you better luck next time at Silverstone.

The Fastest lap was set by Andrew Talbot 1m 47.1 sec at 72.90 mph ( Class record )
