Thrilling Thruxton!
In fact brilliant MG racing, with excellent results for two drivers in particular, read on.....

Class A
Terry Farman who seemed to be making all the running this year had his hardest race so far.
The lead was taken by both Mick Mercer, a familiar sight at the front, and also Phil Walker, at various times during the early laps of the race.
The race, as it progressed developed into a battle of just two cars, with Phil Waker dropping back. Mercer defended his position the best he knew how, but Farman, on a charge, went past the Midget of Mercer at the top of the hill, with just two laps to go. Luckily for Mercer on the final lap Terry Farman, un-characteristically went out of shape going through 'Village'. Mercer seized on the opening, taking back the lead whilst sticking firmly to the racing line through the chicane and holding off Farman, just!, as they crossed the finish line.
The race was won by an incredibly tight 0.04 seconds, Mick Mercer was of course delighted. For Terry Farman, the defeat brought an end to his six race winning streak, in third place, and with his first podium finish, Phil Walker in his BGT.
Other action to entertain the spectators included the charge of Phil Gladman. Phil who qualified very poorly and then made a spectacular pitch for the front only to fail to finish. Another driver who did not finish was Simon Stanyer who spun out at half distance.
Also another good performance was by Ian Johnson (in his son’s car).

Class B
The BARC/MGOC Class B race was fairly entertaining, as usual!
Andy Campbell was at the front of a tight pack of Maestro's, five Maestro's in fact which looked liked a snake as they weaved their way, bumper to bumper, around the Thruxton circuit. In this tight pack of drivers, apart from Campbell at the front were, Simpson, Naish, Groocock and Evans.
It was Colin Simpson though who found a way around the Maestro of Andy Campbell, like the earlier race, there was very little in it as they crossed the line.
