BARC/MGOC Brands Hatch
(10th round)

Class B

Both classes racing for the first and only time this season at Brands Hatch, were affected by the wet weather. It was pretty slippy out there and traction was difficult to find. But in the class B race Adrian Olsson proved once more to be the startline 'Maestro' making a startling getaway from the second row on the grid to go into the lead. Darryl Davis was going well and managed to pass Olsson, only to throw it away at 'clearways' after putting his car broadside in front of the pack, who were in hot pursuit. So, once more it was Olsson, leading the rest of the field around a rain soaked Brands, now it was Olssons turn to throw it all away on lap six, pressure forced him hard into 'druids' and he braked too late and went straight on and out ! He was joined later on the last lap by now third place man Mick Weidner. So with careful judgement of the conditions, it was a win for Fergus Campbell ahead of Darryl Davis.

Class A

. Though still a wet race class A was a little less eventful, initially anyway. I suspect watching the race from the pits it was not hard to judge the conditions on the racetrack, so it was a case of easy does it.( To start with anyway ! ) But as the race approached the halfway stage confidence was beginning to grow amongst the field, and with that confidence in such poor conditions mistakes in judgement can be made. Such a mistake in judgement could have led to the race being stopped after 5 laps, when George Tarrant rolled his MGB GT at the foot of the Paddock bend. Who can tell what might have been, your perhaps in third or fourth place chasing the leaders, you have a race plan in your head then suddenly the red flag comes out and the race is stopped. So for Matthew Read and Alan Yeoman in third and fourth respectively, can only speculate as to whether they would have overhauled Nigel Woolcott, in first place and David Kimber the runner up.
