Maestro's in the Rain

BARC/MGOC Snetterton
(Round 14)

The Final rounds of the BARC/MGOC were held at Snetterton on Sunday 19 October on what can be only described as an "horrible day". It was a Slippery Snetterton that welcomed the competitors to this Norfolk circuit for the last time in 96.

Class A
The Class A cars were the first of the MG's out the circuit, the Historic Classic/Touring Cars, who had opened the meeting in the first race of the day, failed to dry out the circuit. In fact it was never going to dry out as there was a steady drizzle all afternoon.

Most of the field managed to keep on the asphalt until around lap seven, when the battling trio of Read, Davis and Woolcott had trouble getting thru the esse's at the Russel Bend. Davis was sent into a spin which left Matthew Read to chase race leader, Nigel Woolcott. The ground Matthew Read lost was too great, and he could have done with a couple more laps, but 10 were all he got, and they were not enough !
And so it was Nigel Woolcott that went on to win.

Class B
If your name is Davis then look out ! As in the fisrt MG race another Davis was sent spinning at the Russell Bends. This time it was the turn (a 360 turn) of Daryl Davis, who was sent into a spin by Paul Naish, this happened on the final lap. Davis had looked set to win, momentarily it looked all over. But win, he did with quick reactions and a brilliant recovery. Fergus Campbell who had led earlier, just failed to take advantage of the situation and had to settle for third place.
